Do something amazing and join the Harrison Trek

Thank you for your enquiry about the Harrison Trek for Children in Nepal.  It is our aim to make this trek unique, totally accessible to all and to ensure that in addition to raising valuable funds for disabled and disadvantaged children in Nepal, that all the participants have a rewarding and enjoyable day.   It is quite common for charities to organise trekking events in Nepal to raise funds for UK causes so we thought it would be novel to stage a UK-based trek to raise money for Nepal.  To find out how New Futures Nepal uses the money it raises click here.

Care for yourself - Care for others

We want to use this opportunity to raise awareness of the issues facing many children & adults living in deprived countries like Nepal and particularly the plight of those who are orphaned or destitute. At the same time we want to raise awareness of some of the serious health issues facing many adults & children who live in the more fortunate parts of the world like the UK. In Nepal we find homeless children and adults who struggle to find the food to live.  In the UK we find an ever increasing number of children and adults who are putting their lives at risk by their sedentary lifestyles and their tendency to overeat.

We need to help ourselves as well as helping others.  When it comes to health issues prevention is better than cure and the health of any nation will ultimately depend on strategies that focus on children.  The Harrison Group and New Futures Nepal are committed to helping others  and particularly children.   If you join us on our sponsored walk not only will you be caring for yourself, but if you can encourage a child to walk with you and together raise even the smallest amount of cash, then you will also be caring for others.

The routes we have chosen for the walk pass through the attractive grounds of Castle Howard and the surrounding countryside. You will be close to nature and in that environment we will be very surprised if you do not spare a thought or two for our wonderful planet and the challenges it is currently facing.

Walk with a child and start a habit of a lifetime

In addition to raising funds, we want to encourage adults and children to participate together.  Although it is not a condition of entry, we want to encourage you to walk with a child.   It could be one of your own children, a relative’s child or, with their parent’s permission, the child of a friend or neighbour.

We want you and the children you accompany to have a physically stimulating day which is enjoyable and will provide you with the opportunity to meet hundreds of like minded people.

Walks for all ages and abilities

We have planned walks to cater for all ages and abilities.  These will range from 2 miles to 15 miles in length. All the walks will start at our base camp and finish in front of the main house at Castle Howard.  Full details of the arrangements for the day will be provided to those individuals and groups who register and pay their entry fees.  For some practical tips click here.  If you would like to discuss the walks before you commit yourself please telephone Colin on 01751 460250.

Unique certificates will be provided for all participants who complete their chosen course.

Register your interest on-line using the facility above

Applications will be accepted from everyone who is prepared to give up their time to join us, who pays their entry fee and is prepared to raise some cash for our charity. For practical tips on how to obtain sponsorship click here.

Castle Howard

Castle Howard is one of the grandest private residences in Britain, mostly built between 1699 and 1712 for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle. It is familiar to television and movie audiences as the fictional Brideshead. Set in an elevated position against the Howardian Hills, Castle Howard’s magnificent façade isvisible for miles around. Designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, it is the largest house in Yorkshire and has been the home of the Howard family since the seventeenth century.
